Inside work, all year

Interior painting that respects the house you live in.

Boulder's exterior season is short. The inside of your home does not care what the overnight low is, which is why the best interior work happens between October and May.

  • Walls, ceilings, trim, doors, stairwells and basements
  • Zero-VOC products available on any interior project
  • Furniture moved and protected, floors covered, daily cleanup
  • Written 5-year workmanship warranty

Boulder CO Painters paints interiors throughout Boulder County, including walls, ceilings, trim, baseboards, doors, stairwells and basements. Every project includes floor and furniture protection, patching and sanding, stain-blocking primer where staining is present, and finishes from Sherwin-Williams, PPG or Benjamin Moore. Zero-VOC products are available on request at no premium, and interior work runs year-round because it happens inside a heated building.

Why interior work belongs in the cold months

Every painting company in Boulder County is competing for the same twenty-week exterior window. From roughly mid-May to early October, exterior crews are booked solid and scheduling is tight. The rest of the year, interior work has the calendar largely to itself, which means better dates, more attention and a crew that is not watching the sky.

It also means your project gets sequenced the way you want rather than the way the weather dictates. Nursery first before a due date. Main floor before holiday guests. The whole upstairs while you are traveling.

What actually takes the time

Not the painting. Two coats on a standard bedroom is a few hours. What determines whether the finished room looks professional is everything before that: filling and sanding every nail hole and ding, caulking the gaps where trim meets wall, spot-priming the patches so they do not flash through, and cutting lines that stay straight across an uneven century-old wall.

On Boulder's older housing stock, that preparation is most of the project. A Mapleton Hill dining room with picture rail, original base and plaster walls is not the same job as a Gunbarrel bedroom with modern drywall, and the estimate should say so.

Zero-VOC, explained properly

Volatile organic compounds are the solvents that evaporate while paint cures. They produce the smell, and they are what most people mean when they ask for a healthier product. Colorado tightened VOC limits on architectural coatings in 2020, so most quality interior lines sold here are already low-VOC by regulation.

True zero-VOC bases exist and we use them on request. One honest caveat: adding colorant can introduce a small amount of VOC content back into the can, so zero-VOC does not mean zero chemistry. If someone tells you otherwise, they are selling rather than explaining. Read more on our zero-VOC page.

Questions

Interior painting questions from Boulder homeowners

How much does interior painting cost in Boulder?
Published 2026 Front Range data puts interior painting at roughly $1.50 to $3.50 per square foot, and many Boulder projects are quoted per room. Ceiling height, the amount of repair needed, trim and door counts, and whether you are making a significant color change move the number more than floor area alone.
Can you paint inside during winter?
Yes, and it is the smart time to do it here. Interior work happens inside a heated building, so overnight lows are irrelevant, and scheduling is far easier between October and May while exterior crews wait on weather.
Do you offer zero-VOC paint?
Yes, on any interior project. Colorado tightened VOC limits for architectural coatings in 2020, so most quality lines are already low-VOC, and true zero-VOC bases are available. Tinting can add a small amount back, which we will tell you honestly.
Do I need to move my own furniture?
Clearing small items, artwork and electronics helps and can reduce the cost. We move and cover larger pieces as part of protection, and the plan is confirmed at the estimate so nothing is a surprise on day one.
Can you paint over plaster and older walls?
Yes, and Boulder has a great deal of it. Plaster repairs use different materials and technique than drywall, and we assess the condition before specifying anything. Loose or keyed-off plaster needs addressing before paint.
How long will a full interior take?
A single room is often one day. A full house typically runs several days to two weeks depending on size, ceiling height, trim detail and how much patching the walls need. Your written estimate gives you the actual schedule.

Send photos and we will price it without a visit where we can. Peeling, water damage or a landmark property gets a walkthrough first.

Every estimate names the surfaces, the preparation steps, the exact product line and sheen, the coat count, the schedule and the warranty. Nothing vague.
